Thank you, Yadi! I met two ladies on the beach today and one of them said, “you sure look happy.” I said something like, “I am. My name is Joy. I’m always happy.” And she said, “oh well that explains your smile.” She should have been the one smiling! She was on her way to the beach and I was the one leaving. Ha! Hope to be back next year to spend more time with you.

You are so right…it is far more common to avert your gaze and avoid eye contact when you meet someone but a cheery smile can really make your day. Good on you for going back & telling him what it meant to you…bet you he brightened a lot more people’s day after that!

You wrote, “bet you he brightened a lot more people’s day after that!” I hadn’t thought about his reaction to me telling him how much I appreciated his smile. I am sure you are right. He’s probably going to smile more than ever, because some biker girl noticed and said something to him about how much his demeaner meant to her.
Thanks for noting that. We can all benefit from more smiles in our day.

Love it, Joy!! Thanks for your constant smiles!! =D Smiles helped me survive my high school years when I went to a small-town school in a different state where most of the kids had gone to school together for years. It was hard to break in! So I especially looked for other new kids and smiled a lot. Now one of my longest running closest friends is from those years – we even roomed together for 3 years while in graduate school! Smiles are such a blessing – received and given!!

Joy, smiles pass all language barriers! The smile is such a simple action and yet can mean so much. Let us all be reminded to “Keep Smiling”!

You are so right, Cathy. I believe we all laugh in the same language too.

We never know what people are thinking or going through at that moment. A smile warms the heart, and may give them hope for the day. It changes everything!

When we moved into our remote neighborhood in Cartersville, we were on the front porch with my mom, A car drove by, and I waved at them. My mom thought I knew them, but I just replied it was what we do out here in the country. We wave!

    You smile!
Imagine what the world would be like today, if we just chose to smile?

You are so right, Sherry. I wave to people when I’m riding my bike out in the country and people always wave back. I smile and I wave. It’s just what I do. The irony is that it probably makes me feel better than the people I’m waving to and smiling at. They are simple win-win gestures we could all do a little more of.
